Population Genetics can apply GenomePooling™ and Reflex™ to the advancement of plant breeding programmes.
These approaches can facilitate the efficient identification of individual plants with a desired trait that can be used to enhance breeding programmes. Once a desirable trait has been identified, Population Genetics can rapidly screen large populations to identify those individuals carrying the genetic variation associated with that trait. This detailed characterisation of the unique patterns of genetic variation within an individual strain may also permit improved protection of intellectual property in new cultivars.
The rapid detection of sequence variants associated with key traits will allow plant breeding programmes to become even more efficient. Also, in mutagenised plant populations, the ability to screen the genotype across a large population can be significantly more cost-effective than just screening the phenotype.
Population Genetics is interested to discussing the application of its technology in the agbiotech sector; so, if you are interested in learning more about our approach or exploring a potential collaboration, please contact:
